About Department

The Department of Electrical Engineering was established in the year 1963, with an intake of 40 students, which was later increased to 60 in 1966. In the year 1981, Part time Diploma was sanctioned initially with an intake of 40 students, which also was later increased to 60 for students who already are employed and are interested in continuing their education. The programme was granted ‘Academic Autonomy’ in the year 1994, that helped the department to design their own curriculum and cater to the needs of the students.

The Department has unique status of getting accredited for five years in, Mumbai region, which was granted in 2005. The programme is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and is granted unconditional academic equivalence by Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE). The Department also have received ‘Excellent” status by the External Monitoring committee constituted by MSBTE .

Vision and Mission

Vision of Department:

The Department of Electrical Engineering strives to develop competent diploma engineers to cater in various fields of Electrical Engineering.

Mission of Department:

  • To provide students with comprehensive technical knowledge in all fields of Electrical Engineering with a practical approach.
  • To enhance career opportunities for students, and increase both their employability avenues  & entrepreneurial qualities.
  • To develop leadership and teamwork skills and impart values of commitment to quality& ethical behavior among the students.
  • Provide opportunities and ensure regular skill up gradation of faculty and staff through training & interaction with industries & academician.
  • To prepare students for advance industrial automation and promote exposures to foreign language & creative arts too.

Short Term Goals

  • Continue to build strength in various areas of specialization.
  • Continue to strengthen classroom teaching and learning process by encouraging participation in education-based interaction and various innovative initiatives.
  • Encourage students to participate in various co curricular and extracurricular activities.
  • Provide practical exposure to the students through active interactions with industrial experts..

Long Term Goals

  • To impart technical knowledge and enhance ethical values of the students.
  • To inculcate discipline, values and professional competence among the students.
  • To empower and boost the confidence of students to take up Entrepreneurship ventures.
  • To develop active relationship with Industries and encourage Industry Institute Partnership for overall development of students.

  • The curriculum designed has been accorded UNCONDITIONAL EQUIVALENCE by the state-level equivalence committee.
  • The faculties of the department as been appreciated by the institute for the 100% results in their respective courses from the last three years.
  • The department has full-fledged faculty strength with all of them having post-graduation qualifications.
  • The department has conducted special diploma batches for technicians of Indian Navy.
  • The department has been mentoring students taking admission in Pradhanmantri Kaushalya Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) scheme under the umbrella of the institute.

  • Mrs. B S Motling has participated in ten numbers of 10k and six numbers of 21k Marathon in the last two years.
  • Mr. S N Kolte has worked as a book reviewer for Tata McGraw hills.
  • Mr. Uday Suryawanshi has worked as a reviewer for the 2019 9th International Conference on Power and Energy Systems.
  • Mr. Uday Suryawanshi was adjudged Runners up at TOSS 2016 (Cricket Match) organized by Somaiya Vidyavihar.
  • Mrs. Aanchal Lalla has been appreciated by Inner wheel of Bombay bay view for participation in career counselling fair consecutively for 2016, 2017 and 2018.
